Project overview worksheet: Each student will receive a hard copy during the week of October 22, 2018.
Due dates of individual components will be listed below as tasks are assigned.
1. Topic Selection
Due: Friday, November 2, 2018
- Overview form with Parent signature
- If applicable, names of your partners and a second parent signature with them
- On the back, write the topic you've chosen, and then three sentences addressing your topic. (Why you chose it, what you want to learn about it, etc.)
2. Historical Context & Timeline
Due: Wednesday, December 5, 2018
- At this point, you need to begin researching your topic. Your research will require more than just answering the following questions, but this is a good start...
- (Be sure to write down your sources, as you will need a total of 10 sources in the end, including 5 primary sources.)
- Title your paper "Historical Context:" followed by the title of your own project
- Answer each of the following questions in complete sentences.
- Who were the important people involved?
- What happened?
- When did this occur?
- Where did this occur?
- Why did this occur?
- How did this topic affect other events after it in history?
- (Ultimately, this will be the most important part of your overall project)
- Title the back of your paper (or a new paper) "Timeline:"
- Create a timeline of important events associated with your topic. Include events that happened beforehand and that shaped the topic, as well as events that occurred afterward that were impacted by your topic.
3. Thesis Rough Draft and Two Primary Sources:
Due: Wednesday, January 9
Approximately one paragraph that introduces the topic and its significance (the point that you are trying to prove). The rest of the presentation includes supporting evidence that backs up your thesis.
- A good thesis statement addresses a narrow topic, explains the historical significance of the topic
- (Why is this important?)
- The thesis statement should be the final sentence of your paragraph. The rest of the paragraph provides context and leads up to the point you are trying to prove.
- Clearly connects the topic to the NHD theme “Triumph & Tragedy”
- Should be located in an obvious place in your final presentation
4. Choose Presentation Category:
Due: Wednesday, January 9
- Read the instructions for each category at the NHD website.
- Choose one of the following:
- A. Exhibit Board: individual or group up to 3 people
- B. Documentary (video): individual or group up to 3 people
- C. Performance (play): individual or group up to 5 people
- D. Website: individual or group up to 3 people
