How to do Weekly News Homework |
|
- Look at this week's post in the "News" section of the class website
- Choose which event you want to research
- Find and read TWO news article on this event
- Feel free to learn about the topic by other means (watching videos, etc.), but you must READ two articles to complete the homework.
- You can find articles however you like, including by Googling, or by browsing Twitter feeds.
- Make sure you're reading articles from THIS WEEK.
- Try to find two articles with different points of view, biases, etc.
- Write the source and title of each article
- Example:
- New York Times: "Jason Dumont wins Nobel Peace Prize"
- Washington Post: "Dumont chosen Nobel Winner"
- Example:
- Write a GOOD 6-8 sentence paragraph.
- Seriously. 6-8 sentences. "6 to 8" doesn't mean "6". Don't be lazy.
- Summarize the event (3+ sentences)
- Give your opinion on the event (3+ sentences)
- Optional: Give your opinion on the news coverage
- Compare/contrast the two news sources' coverage of the event
- Did any major differences stand out? Are they written fairly? Do you sense a bias? Was one better than the other, and if so, why?
News Homework will be due (almost) every Monday.
If you are absent, turn it in ASAP.
