Guide to the Header Buttons
Students without Internet access at home are welcome to come to my classroom before school, after school, or during lunch. Students should do their best to let me know ahead of time so that I may provide them a pass.
Skyward is where students/parents can check class grades, missing assignments, and other vital information.
For information on how to sign up for Skyward, please click here.
I'll let Twitter tell you about Twitter.
In this class, Twitter will be used to transmit information from across the desk, across the class, or across the campus.
Outside of class, Twitter will be a way for students to communicate with me, as well as fellow students. They can continue classroom conversations or ask for help with homework, upcoming tests, etc.
Access to Twitter from home is NOT required.
ClassDojo is a fun way for teachers to acknowledge positive behavior in class, as well as negative or unwanted behavior if necessary. Students can also log in from home to track their "points".
This site is a great way for me to keep track of behavior, but it doesn't have to be limited to me. Please feel free to ask your child to log in to their ClassDojo account at home to show you how they're behaving in class...for better or worse.
"Edmodo is transforming the way that teachers and students connect, engage and learn both inside and outside the classroom." That's the company line, and it's true!
Edmodo will be used in class on a regular basis--to complete assignments, take quizzes, and turn in homework, among other things--and each student will create their own account in class during the first week of school. Parents/guardians can also create an account so they can follow along. If you are interested in doing so, please e-mail me and I will reply with the "personal code" that will be required.
The use of Facebook is purely an optional way for students to continue their discussions in another forum. Content on the Facebook "fan page" will be limited to the "tweets" posted on the Twitter account (i.e. for our purposes, Facebook and Twitter will be identical and 100% overlapping). It is simply provided for those students who don't use Twitter, but would like to receive the same updates.
Access to Facebook from home is NOT required, and Facebook cannot be accessed on SCPS campuses or from SCPS equipment, including iPads.
The Milwee Middle School webpage is an excellent resource with a wealth of information for students, parents, and most importantly, for me!
The last icon is simply a quick way to send me a message using your default e-mail application. If you have any trouble with the link, my address is: email@example.com. (All SCPS teachers' e-mail addresses follow this format.) Please feel free to write me any time with any questions you may have. I try my best to respond as quickly as possible--and usually do--so if you don't hear back within 24 hours, please write me again to make sure your message didn't slip through the digital cracks.
